Cross-Cultural Adjustment Assessment

The CernySmith Adjustment Index™ ( CSAI™) is a powerful new screening instrument for improving field retention by evaluating and enhancing cross-cultural adjustment.

This well researched instrument was normed on a sample of 1133 cross-cultural workers in 130 host countries from 46 home countries. The CSAI™ contains 97 questions and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. It is appropriate for any person living cross-culturally more than 30 days.

The instrument comes in several versions.

  • Humanitarian (CSAI-H) – For adult humanitarian workers and adult members of their families
  • Student (CSAI-S) – For students age 15+
  • Team Report – A group management report analyzing the average scores of a team of 10 or a team of up to 110 workers and/or their families.

After completing the instrument a comprehensive 10-page report will be e-mailed by your coach. The report evaluates adjustment on 20 different life areas grouped into 5 adjustment domains. The adjustment areas developed by CSAI™ research are:
